REED CITY — Phylis Pauline Sandlin, age 72, of Reed City passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her home with her daughter and grandsons by her side.
Phylis was born on November 7, 1945 and was raised in Reed City to Max and Genevieve (Fisher) Babcock and was a 1963 graduate of Reed City High School. On August 7, 1964 she was married to David Sandlin and celebrated 42 years of marriage together. Phylis and David traveled the country together, living at different Army bases during the first 22 years of their marriage until settling in Reed City near family, where she raised her family and lived the remainder of her life.
She was employed with the Reed City school system in the kitchen and was known as either the “lunch lady” or “apron lady” due to her always wearing a different cartoon character on her apron every day. She loved getting a “good deal” and enjoyed yard sales and second-hand stores where she would shop for anyone and everyone whether you had asked her to or not. She will be dearly missed by her family and those close to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim; grandsons, Shawn, Ryan (Heather), and Rylee; great-grandchildren, Jaycee and Killian; her sister, Marlene; a niece, Beth; and her great-nephews, Justin and Geoffrey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David; her parents, Max and Genevieve; brothers, Butch and Lloyd; and her cousins, Sandy and Butch (Monroe).
A celebration of her life will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Reed City Depot. Burial at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in her name to a charity of your choice or to the family to offset funeral expenses.
