EVART — Lela M. Mowat-Wheeler of Evart passed away peacefully with her children at her side, Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Nottingham Place in Midland, Michigan. She was 94.
Lela was born January 31, 1924 in Hartwick Township, Osceola County, Michigan, to Clyde C. and Mary L. (Davis) Cooper. She was a lifelong Evart area resident and lived on the same farm since she was 17 years old. Lela was a member of the Olgilvie Wesleyan Church and enjoyed music, crafts and writing poetry.
Mrs. Mowat-Wheeler is survived by her six children, Victor L. (Linda) Mowat of Midland, Neil J. (Bonnie) Mowat of Evart, Darwin G. (Joan) Mowat of Evart, Daniel R. (Sue) Mowat of Evart, Ilene G. Sherman of Jenison, Mary (Bill) Lyons of Fairfield, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy (Roy) Thompson of Marion, Carol (Jim) Batterbee of Ovid; and three brothers, Ralph (Jean) Cooper of Marion, Birt (Arlene) Cooper of St. Johns, and Stephen F. Cooper of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Mowat on December 4, 1984; her husband, Maurice Wheeler on February 14, 2004; her sister, Martha Salisbury; and four brothers, an infant brother Roger, Buddy C. Cooper, Rev. Jack D. Cooper and Bill D. Cooper.
Funeral services honoring the life of Lela M. Mowat-Wheeler will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 31, at the Evart Free Methodist Church with Pastor Neil Mowat and Pastor Darwin Mowat officiating. Visitation will be held at 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 30, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart and Friday at the church 11 a.m. until time of services. Lela will be laid to rest next to her husband, Earl Mowat, in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Hartwick Township, Osceola County, Michigan.
