EVART — Joseph E. Bell, of Evart, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018. He was 99.
Mr. Bell was born August 23, 1919, in Cadillac, to Roy E. and Elsie (Bordeau) Bell. He married Ruby Doane in Barryton, April 24, 1939, and she preceded him in death October 16, 2002. Joe was an Evart-area resident for the last 75 years and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he earned two bronze combat stars for battles in the Philippines and was also a recipient of the Purple Heart. Joe farmed most of his life, and enjoyed traveling all over the country with Ruby in their motorhome after retiring from farming in 1984. Mr. Bell was a member of Faith Bible Church and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). Joe was an avid reader and loved playing billiards.
Joe is survived by his son, Lynn “Nick” (Marcia) Bell of Evart; nine grandchildren, Shalom, Heidi, Carol, Tony, Carrie, Lance, Tonya, Koti, and Craig; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Brenda Bell of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law that were very dear to him, Vivian Doane and Marjorie Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruby; two sons, Wayne and his wife Gloria, and Tony; four grandchildren, Jesse Bell, Rachael Bell, Eric Bell, and Neal Bell; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services honoring the life of Joseph E. Bell will be held at noon, Monday, September 17, 2018, at Faith Bible Church, with Pastor Tim Ford officiating, and visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Mr. Bell will be laid to rest next to his wife in Sylvan Township Cemetery with a time of fellowship and refreshment following. Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Bible Church.
