EVART — Janice C. VanAssche, of Evart, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Friday, August 24, 2018 at Mitchell’s AFC Home near Tustin. She was 96.
Mrs. VanAssche was born July 29, 1922 in Sylvan Township, Osceola County, Michigan to Edward Vernon and Rose (Friend) Adams. She graduated from Evart High School in 1941. Janice married George Phillip VanAssche January 24, 1942 in Flint and he preceded her in death November 2, 1985. She worked building B-25 Bombers during WWII near Detroit, then went on to work at Riverside Electric in Marion, then retired from being an Inspector at Evart Products. Janice enjoyed being a volunteer teacher’s helper at the Evart Elementary School for many years. She spent her spare time flower gardening, quilting, being a seamstress, and crafts of many kinds. Mrs. VanAssche was a lifelong Evart area resident and was a member of Faith Bible Church.
Janice is survived by her two children, son Phillip V. (Dollene) VanAssche of Cadillac, daughter Rosemary (Joseph) Cruikshank of Evart, seven grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, and her son-in-law Douglas Crawford of Evart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her daughter Georgia Crawford, an infant daughter, her grandson Kevin Crawford, her sister Mary Daniels, and her brother James Adams.
Funeral services honoring the life of Janice Christine VanAssche will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 29 at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart with Pastor Tim Ford officiating. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of services. Mrs. VanAssche will be laid to rest in Sylvan Township Cemetery next to her husband.
