EVART — Harry V. Smith, of Sylvan Township near Evart, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at Autumnwood of McBain. He was 78.
Mr. Smith was born November 20, 1939 in Coal City, West Virginia, to Robert Russell & Rhoda Ellen (Blevins) Smith. He worked as a welder for Chrysler for 25 years and retired to the Evart area in 2002. Harry married Bonnie K. Taylor on April 24, 2007 at the Sears Church of God. They enjoyed wintering in Texas. Harry enjoyed helping people and never met a stranger.
Harry had owned and restored five classic cars. He was a member of the Walter P. Chrysler Club, the Detroit Plymouth Owners Club, and the Evart Car Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and preparing pig roasts for his family and church family. Harry was a member of the Sears Church of God.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Bonnie K. Smith of Evart; his son, Eugene Keith Smith of Harrisville, Mich.; his daughter, Lisa (Guy) Salander of Owosso, Mich.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annamae (Richard) Williams of South Bend, Ind., Carol Zarychi of North Royalton, Ohio; and a special cousin, Katherine (James) Boggus of Anstead, W.V.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 42 years, Judith; an infant daughter; and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life honoring Harry Vaughn Smith will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 11, at the Sears Church of God with Pastor Dick Latham officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church. Harry will be interred in Sylvan Township Cemetery.
