EVART — A business in Evart was awarded the Patriotic Award by the U.S. National Guard for its support for those in the military.
PLM Lake and Land Management Corp. in Evart was presented with the Patriotic Award for their support of a service member, according to Evart’s Executive for Economic Development Melora Theunick.
“One of the members of their team, who is currently in the military, felt (PLM) was deserving of the award because of their ability to work with his military schedule,” she said.
Pfc. Shannon Leifker specifically mentioned the work of Northern Regional Lakes Manager Bre Grabill who received the award on behalf of the business.
“It caught me off guard,” said Grabill. “I was not expecting him to nominate the company. This was all (Leifker), he did all the leg work.”
During her speech, ESRG volunteer Christine Kenan spoke on the story Leifker wrote in about Grabill allowing him to leave at a moments notice during the Florida hurricane last year without repercussions.
“I had to leave,” he wrote. “I called Bre as soon as I got the call and all she said was to be safe and not to worry about anything.”
Theunick hopes that this recognition will incentivize more businesses to support service members in the workplace.
“I guess there is just not as much support for service members,” said Theunick. “I hope more local businesses will see this and feel like this is something they would like to be a part of as well.”
The Patriotic Award is presented to businesses who show their support in not only employing men and women in the armed forces but also is willing to be flexible with their schedules, said Theunick.
“Those in the military have hectic schedules,” she said. “It is so important that businesses help support those in the service.”
