REED CITY — The 14th annual Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital Great American Crossroads 5K Run and Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 18. Registration is now open for the hospital’s featured event during the Great American Crossroads Festival in Reed City.
Participants can register at spectrumhealth.org/annual-5K-run, or call 231-832-7149. More than 120 exercise enthusiasts are expected to take part in the run or walk.
The event course winds through picturesque Reed City parks and the Pere Marquette Trail, plus city streets. The hospital sponsors the 5K to promote health and wellness in the community, according to race director Tracey Duchene.
Event headquarters is behind the hospital at 300 N. Patterson Road, where the course begins and ends. Parking and the start/finish area can be accessed from State Street. Additional parking is available in the lot in front of the hospital.
All runners will have a microchip in their bib that electronically records their time as they cross the finish line.
Runners will start at 9 a.m., with walkers leaving immediately after the runners. Again this year there will be a free “Kids Dash” for youngsters up to age 10 at 8:30 a.m., preceding the start of the race.
Registration is $25 per runner or walker, which includes a tech tee shirt, although walkers who do not want the official race shirt can participate at no cost. Shirts will be available on a first-come, while-they-last basis.
To encourage corporate participation, a special price of $10 apiece is offered for teams of 4 or more registering together from the same company.
Early event check-in is available. Shirts and bib numbers can be picked up on Friday, August 17 from noon to 2 p.m. inside the Reed City Hospital Multispecialty Clinic main lobby.
Trophies and medals will be awarded for first overall male and female runners, plus first, second and third place male and female finishers in the following age categories: 0-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus years.
